Acute bed reconfiguration
St Mary’s Hospital £5.1 million Completion Summer 2023
A new 18-bed acute ward will see the reconfiguration of our acute beds. This will enable better use of beds and the separation of planned and emergency inpatient care.
Patient benefits
- Improved privacy and dignity for patients with additional side rooms
- Better infection and prevention control
- Increased surgical bed space
- Capacity to increase the level of activity
- Our acute services will be co-located, which will improve collaborative working
- Strengthen and develop our acute nursing workforce

“The acute bed reconfiguration project will bring a number of benefits to patients and staff. By bringing teams closer together in the hospital we will have more collaborative multi-disciplinary working which, ultimately improve the quality of care for patients.”

“With additional side rooms it will mean that we can improve privacy and dignity for patients. This will also help to improve infection control across departments. The additional space in our surgical wards will mean that we have the adequate number of beds for our level of activity.”
