What facilities will the integrated Mental Health and Community Hub have?
The new, integrated, fully accessible mental health and community hub in Newport High Street will include treatment and talking therapy rooms, telehubs for telemedicine appointments, adaptable rooms for social and community use, workshops and events, office space, a changing places toilet, children’s play area and a community café. There will also be a discreet entrance for anyone requiring crisis support.
It will host community services that provide both physical health support eg physio, occupational therapy, podiatry, speech and language as well as access to a range of support to prevent mental health needs escalating.
The hub will bring many benefits including improved continuity of care and holistic care, a better patient and staff environment and experience and improved accessibility including late opening times.
Where is the closest I will be able to park to collect a relative after an operation?
The main drop-off and collection point is in the main car park. This is a newly created area in the section of the car park nearest the hospital and the spaces are a very short distance from those previously in use.
A new pedestrian crossing will be created to help you cross between the main entrance and the car park. Volunteers will also be available to provide assistance. If you have any questions or feel the new arrangements may present difficulties, then please raise them with us prior to discharge.
Will there be a change in car parking availability?
No, there will be an additional 40 car parking spaces.
We will shortly be opening a new staff car park in nearby Lonsdale Avenue which we will be encouraging staff to use and this will help free up additional parking spaces around the site.
Where is the closest car park to the blood testing service?
The closest car park is the North Hospital Car Park.
Where is the closest car park to the main outpatient department?
The nearest car park is the North Hospital Car Park.
Where are the traffic lights going to be located?
The road leading up to the Education Centre will be narrowed to accommodate the new ICU extension with traffic lights in place to facilitate vehicle movements.
As a result, it is possible there may be some very small delays to traffic using services at the back of the hospital service (eg renal, mortuary, stoma, audiology, discharge lounge pick up, pre-assessment Covid checks).
Please make sure you leave plenty of time to get to your appointment.
Will the temporary ICU still have all the same equipment/facilities when it is in its new temporary location? Will it be safe?
The ICU will continue to provide all its services from its new temporary location in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The ICU unit previously moved into the CCU during the pandemic and continued to provide excellent services.
